The moment has come to rejoice in the story of Clayesmore. I say this not because of any significant anniversary, but becuase I believe our particular journey, after more than 100 years, is ripe for rediscovery and celebration. Clayesmore's story and the vision of our founder, Alexander Devine, who set out to show that the true aim of education was to help the individual achieve his or her individuality, is one that chimes more and more with the parents of today. This is heartily endorsed by the growth of interest in the school by parents seeking the best for their children, and by the burgeoning communication with an ever-growing alumni family.
All of which makes this a good time, I believe, to try and capture in print the essence of Clayesmore, with its overwhelming sense of family, warmth, community spirit and personal endeavour that has spanned generations of pupils and staff at both Prep and Senior schools. However, a book such as this, that will trace our heritage through a skilful blend of archive material and modern-day perspective, needs your help. Contribute your own personal memories so that we may weave a rich tapestry of experiences that truly enshrines the Clayesmore spirit.
Do also consider subscribing in advance of publication, which is a wonderful way of becoming part of this exciting project and provides you with an opportunity to reinforce your links with the school. After ten years as Headmaster of the Senior School and six years before that as Headmaster of the Prep School, it is an honour and a privilege to preside over such an exciting and uplifting project, and I would love you to join our celebration.
